How do I refill and adjust the coarseness of my PepperBall or Salt Ball?

Check out the video: http://www.chefn.com/Product.aspx?id=14

There are two designs of the PepperBall®. Depending on which design you own, the refill instructions will vary.

The 2010 redesign of the PepperBall® moved the refill area to the top of the ball. We made it even easier. Twist the handles counter-clockwise to unscrew the top.

Our Vibe PepperBalls® feature a refill window on the side of the ball - have a look. If you see a rectangular window, just slide the door down (like a sliding glass door) and you'll be able to fill your grinder in a snap. There may be clear tape holding the door shut; this is placed there so the pepper doesn't fall out during shipment. Just peel it off – and fill with ease.

Also, you might like to know that you can adjust the grind output on your grinder (not applicable on the MiniMagnetic grinders). Simply turn the dial on the bottom of the grinder to adjust to five levels of grind coarseness.

The magnets in the Mini Magnetic grinders have been installed so that they can stick to your refrigerator, stove or range hood for easy access while cooking. They are not intended to stick to each other – although that is a great idea!

How do I refill and adjust the coarseness of my Dual Grinder?

Check out the video: http://www.chefn.com/Product.aspx?id=36

On the sides of the grinder you'll see small windows that open outward. There are small indentations on each side of the doors that allow you to grip them and pop them outward. Once open, fill with your favorite type of coarse sea salt or peppercorns. One thing to keep in mind is that the salt and pepper are not interchangeable. The grinding mechanisms are different on either side, so the pepper must go in the pepper side and the salt must go in the salt side.

To adjust the coarseness of your Dual Grinder™, first look at the bottom of the grinder. There you’ll find two adjustment dials – one for peppercorns and one for salt. For a finer grind, move these dials from the large dot to the small dot. For a coarser grind simply reverse the process.

Feel free to experiment with these dials until you find the grind that best suits your taste – or recipe.

Can I clean my grinder?

We do not recommend cleaning our grinders with any type of liquid. Liquid may damage the grinding rasp if the unit is not completely dry when you refill it. However, you can swab out the inside of your grinder with a soft cloth or clean off the grinding rasp if it is clogged.

To clean the rasp, turn the mill upside down and squeeze the handles together. You'll see the rasp sticking out from the bottom of the unit; while it's sticking out, clean off the rasp with a soft cloth or toothpick.

There are a few areas of our grinders that may accumulate pepper or salt dust after a long period of use. Regretfully this area cannot be cleaned.

Can I swap salt & pepper in my grinder?

Depending on the style, our pepper grinders feature either zinc or carbon steel grinding rasps. These rasps are designed to effectively grind oily peppercorns and remain sharp for a longer period. Our salt grinders all feature ceramic grinding rasps; ceramic is used to grind salt effectively and remain sharp without corroding.

We do not advise to use these grinders to be used for anything except their intended purpose. If pepper were placed in the salt grinder, the oils in the peppercorns will clog the grinder and render it ineffective. If salt were used in the pepper grinder, eventually the salt would corrode the grinding rasp and become unusable.

How do I use the VeggiSteam?

First you will choose your preferred size of pot, add water in the bottom of the pot, and then place the VeggiSteam into the pot. Bring the water to a boil, add your food items to the steamer and put the lid on. The time required for various items to steam is different for each type of food. Some people like their vegetables crispy, while others like them a little more well-done. We found a great article online that may help your steaming experience: http://www.ochef.com/596.htm.

Additionally, be sure to not let the water evaporate completely. If you notice the water is getting low, just add a little more to the pan.
